Lorraine Hess is a singer, songwriter, and music minister born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She grew up in a family of Jazz and Cajun musicians, and her writing is strongly influenced by her New Orleans heritage. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University, and she is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Pastoral Studies at Loyola University Institute for Ministry in New Orleans. She has served the church in music since age 16, and she is the Music Ministry Director at Divine Mercy Parish in Kenner, LA.
She released her first solo album, We Shall Be Healed, in 2008; a collection of songs written and inspired by her faith journey as a Catholic wife and mother, and her experiences surviving Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and its aftermath. Her second album, Child of God (2010), includes two songs published by World Library Publications. This album of thirteen original compositions combines her contemporary style with the rich traditions of the Catholic faith. Her third album, Cradle in Bethlehem (2012), produced by Ed Bolduc, is a pro-life Advent/Christmas project in which $2 from every CD sold is donated to ACCESS Pregnancy & Referral Centers, a program of Associated Catholic Charities (New Orleans) serving approximately 1,300 abortion-vulnerable women every year. Included on the album are original songs as well as her unique arrangements of Christmas classics. Several songs on this album are also published (or to-be published shortly) by WLP.
She has performed at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians Convention, the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry, the Catholic Women of Faith Conference (Nashville), New Orleans World Youth Day, the National Catholic Educators Association Convention & Expo, the New Orleans Archdiocese Leadership Celebration, the Louisiana Rice Festival, the National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy (NOCERCC) & at concerts, youth events, retreats and liturgies throughout the country. She has recorded with world-renowned Catholic singer/songwriter John Angotti on his album Joy Beyond Our Dreams, and has performed for best-selling author and Rwanda genocide survivor, Immaculée Ilibagiza. She has also appeared on the nationally televised shows The Power of Love hosted by Fr. Michael Manning, SVD and Live With Passion with Fr. Cedric Pisegna, C.P.
Lorraine and her husband, Rob, are recipients of the St. Louis Medallion Award for service to the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and they are proud parents of four sons, which she considers her greatest vocation.
